Hermanas Unidas was established at UCB in 1994...
In the early 90’s, Zuleyka Heredia, Ricki Robles, Amelia Schustz, Erica Solorzano and Bernadette Vargas found that there was not much of a support system at Berkeley for the Latina woman, so they came together and formed Hermanas Unidas. It provided a home away from home and provided resources through our three pillars: Academic, Social, and Community Service. You will hear the founders say, they never imaged that hermanas would grow to what it has become today, but the fact that it has is testimony to the need for our organization.
An important milestone in our history is 2005 when HaU became an INC. Alumni make up the HaU Inc Alumni Association and Board of Directors. So your experiences with hermanas do not end at graduation, they continue on as alumni.
